FAQ

Is your Mad Honey 100% genuine?

Absolutely. We only source from local beekeepers and then we lab test our honey to be certain of its potency and efficacy. We’re trusted by customers around the globe to deliver the highest quality Deli Bal that’s certified genuine.

Why is Mad Honey called Deli Bal?

Mad Honey was popular in Europe in the 17th century, where it was imported by the ton from the Black Sea regions of Turkey. The Europeans referred to it by the French term “Miel Fou”, or “Crazy Honey”. In Turkey, however, it was called “Deli Bal”, or “Mad Honey” in the local Turkish.

Where does your Deli Bal come from?

Our Deli Bal comes from the Anzer Plateau, which rises above the Black Sea coast in eastern Turkey.

How is Deli Bal made?

There are hundreds of rhododendron species around the world, but only two or three contain grayanotoxin in their nectar. One of these grows in large fields in eastern Turkey, and the honey created by bees pollinating these plants contains a potent amount of this mildly euphoric compound.

How do you eat Deli Bal?

In small quantities, as people have done for millennia, generally no more than a tablespoon in a 24 hour period. They might smear it on toast or mix it into beer, wine, or milk. Typically it’s consumed just before breakfast for a quick pick-me-up.

What are some of the benefits of Deli Bal?

We sell our Deli Bal for its health benefits. It’s been used for millennia by local villagers to treat anxiety, stress, and migraines.

It’s also commonly used to treat hypertension, diabetes, and a variety of stomach ailments. And new research indicates the honey has antiviral and antibacterial properties that may help fight bacterial and viral infections.

Can I trust the honey I purchase from you?

Yes. Our Mad Honey is certified genuine. Deli Bal is a trusted online retailer of Mad Honey and we take our commitment to quality very seriously. We provide competitive prices, outstanding customer service, and affordable, reliable shipping worldwide.

Some other stores have been found to sell fake or diluted Mad Honey. We pride ourselves on selling only the best quality Deli Bal directly from Turkey’s Anzer Plateau.

Our return address is available upon request. Just please be certain the honey you return is the honey you purchased from us and that at least 90% of the product remains.

We make this guarantee knowing that once you’ve tried our honey, you’ll be a believer.

Please note that you will have to pay the shipping cost and that we cannot return any shipping fees.

Does Mad Honey have any topical applications?

Indeed it does! Mad Honey is a great, natural anti-aging skin care product.

Our Deli Bal is a natural humectant, meaning that it attracts and retains moisture. This makes it an excellent skin moisturizer, subtly rebuilding moisture in the skin without making it oily.

Mad Honey also contains an enzyme called glucose oxidase which, when combined with water, produces hydrogen peroxide, a mild antiseptic. Matched with Mad Honey’s grayanotoxin, antioxidants, and certain active flavonoids, it acts as a gentle antibacterial agent, cleansing skin of damaging bacteria.

It’s no wonder that Cleopatra and Poppea, the wife of Roman Emperor Nero were reported to have used Mad Honey as part of the extensive beauty regimen.

Why do people refer to Mad Honey as Holistic Honey?

Science is beginning to provide evidence supporting the historical uses of Mad Honey in traditional medicine. It has long been known to help treat anxiety, stress, migraines, hypertension, diabetes, and stomach viruses, but science is now also showing that it has antiviral and antibacterial properties.

We know that many plants contain substances intended to defend them against viruses, fungi, and bacteria. Humans can take advantage of these traits by consuming these plants. Mad Honey’s active agent comes from the rhododendron plant. It should be no surprise then that foods like garlic, tea leaves, coconut, and now Mad Honey are being studied as natural antiseptic substances.
